Sunday, January 10th, Unity Church of Tustin - Tustin, CA.
John will be speaking and performing music at the Sunday services (9 & 11 am). He will also be offering an afternoon workshop titled: "Waking from the Dream of Imperfection" from 1:30-4:30 pm. Here is a brief description:
When we are born into this world and live as young infants, we have no sense that there is anything about us that is wrong. We harbor no beliefs that we are in any way flawed or imperfect. The idea that there is something about us or our experience that is not quite right or that needs to be improved upon, is not innate to us but rather learned. We get trained in the idea that we are in some way flawed. If we look at our lives, we could even say that this is our greatest addiction as human beings, the addiction to imperfection. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to what for thousands of years, contemplatives and mystics have offered as the one simple "cure" for this addiction to imperfection and that is the recognition of our innate natural perfection.
Through the use of words and silence, dialogue with participants, and also the sharing of poetry and song, participants will be invited to discover that when we simply relax into our innate, natural perfection, we find that the very qualities and experiences that we have struggled so hard to realize by overcoming our supposed imperfections are actually already present as our very own nature: a profound sense of ease and freedom in the midst even of very difficult experiences; a wise and clear mind; and a relentlessly compassionate heart - these are the qualities that are innate to us, the qualities that are innate to life. And this is what we discover when we awaken from the dream of imperfection.
